I’m at a great point in my “fitness life!” How? I can set a goal but not be so consumed by it that I don’t grab and enjoy every great moment on my way to that goal! What? Example: I am running 6000 miles this calendar year to celebrate my 60th birthday! I decided that I am going to keep a daily count but never add it all up! Instead I am going to do my best ever “running through 2024” and not overly concern myself with the total outcome! Why? I believe by doing that I will actually run quite a bit more than 6000 miles! When I turned 50 I ran 5000 miles for that year and reached the 5000th mile on August 29th mid way through a 50K! I am convinced that if I hadn’t kept a perfect “track record” that I would have kept running the last 4 months the way I did the first 8 and would have accomplished much more! How do I know this? Simply because I know me! There are many reasons to train outside like fresh air and that there are no gym fees. But what I’m talking about today is that you become free from a large assortment of “rules” by a gym! You know like not being able to train the way you like or not being able to wear the shoes that you came to the gym in! Other things like extra fees at different times! It adds up and let me tell you that is feels so good to become “unhampered” from all of those things! “The” Trainer/Inside Out Fitness
The main thing that a person doing “outside training” needs to master is body weight training! Let’s say that you are running a trail and decide to stop and do resistance exercise on a big rock (I do this all the time). What you need to be able to do is to “use your body as the resistance!” Why? Because the rock doesn’t move like dumbbells! What has to move is “your body” so you need to understand how to move your body in ways that you will provide that resistance to any part of your body that you choose! #outside #outsidetraining #hoodriver #columbiarivergorge
Sly is definitely on top of things! “Easier” sounds good and sometimes it is but most of the time when we accept the easier way, we are accepting the fact that “in order to adopt the ‘easier way’ that we are also accepting the fact that we are capable of doing less and less and yes, less!” As I get older, my actual goal is to do more! Example: when I turned 50 ten years ago I ran 5000 miles (during the calendar year) to celebrate! Also I put out lots of posts saying what my upcoming goals would be. What? Well, my goal is that every ten years I’m going to add 1000 more miles to it! So I turn 60 this year (2024) so I am currently running 6000 miles this calendar year! When I turn 70 I’ll run 7000 miles etc.! People ask me what happens if I don’t make it? I tell them that it is definitely possible but I’m not changing this “escalating goal!” But, if I don’t make it one year then it doesn’t really matter as long as I know that I did my best!
