Do you know for sure what you’ll end up doing in your future life? That may sound a little strange and maybe silly at first glance but I will tell you what I’ve found in my own experience. When I was a kid I was so shy that I, when I tried to look ahead at myself in some extremely distant future world, all I could fathom was that because of my debilitating insecurities I would probably be working in an extremely low paying and out-of-the-way job for the rest of my life! But, I had this one dream, after being bullied by an older kid and beat up on the school bus nearly every day, that I was going to get as fit, strong and independent enough to fight back my current, as well as all future, oppressors! Little did i know at the time what this “active decision and personal choice” on my part would mean and forever change the way I looked at my future!
I truly believe that if I didn’t have, at an early age of 12, a great desire to fight back against my bully as well as my own inner self, I very well could have remained that underachiever that I had been up till then. But by having that need to wrong a right (overcome the bully and my own insecurities), I awoken something in me that became a powerful force of strength! I found myself “plugging away” at more of what I saw as injustices in my little world!
I have since been the first in my family of 5 boys to get a college degrees (2 actually), one in computer programming and another in science (nursing) and have worked 15 years primarily in CCU. I also have been a functional trainer for around 20 years! I have also done many bodybuilding and powerlifting events, as well as run over 300 marathons and over 250 half marathons as well as 30 + ultras (races longer than a marathon of 26.2 miles) including several Pikes Peak marathons and “doublers” (a marathon on Saturday and then a half the following day on Sunday).
Having said that, looking back, I owe pretty much all of that to that one long ago day when I was only 12 years old and was really only thinking about getting that darn bully to stop beating the heck out of me! That and the fact that I’m pretty “bull-headed” and don’t easily give up or in on things I’m excited about! I truly feel that without making that choice and following my feelings, I would still be hidden in some low paying minimum wage job and totally disliking who and what I was!
So let’s get back to what I’ve named this little story: “What do you need to become before you become what you need?” I needed to feel like I had a reason and purpose in my life! I made a choice that eventually led me to fulfill those desires. So what I’m saying is that you don’t need the entire picture showing you everything! You just need to ask the right questions and go where the answers lead you and never ever give up on yourself! Now go out there and live your life! Life@62!

Since I started working on my mind/body at 12 years of age, I’ve always had moments that I wanted to give up on improving myself. Every time I really thought “this is it” I would realize that even though I didn’t feel like I was improving as much as I’d like to, that if I quit then I really would have nothing at all! So I’d always look deeper inside myself and somehow develop a “reason to keep fighting!” It has eventually always worked for me! Sometimes better than others but I have always found a way to continue and to look back and I have realized that everything I do positive is never for nothing! It adds up to a whole lot of “something!” So, dig deep and find your reason! Thank you! “The” Trainer

I do not “pre-plan” your entire workout before I get there! That’s a “very good thing!” We “create” your workout based on… 1- your goals 2- How you’re feeling when I arrive 3- What you “feel” like you “want” to achieve in the moment before you begin! 4- What will help make you “happy” and that usually changes throughout the day so we don’t want to make up something before we know how you’re “feeling” in the moment I arrive for your session! 5- how you “feel” will decide what you want to do and what kind of “intensity” you will have “available” for your session! So let’s “use” that to achieve a better overall “session!” 6- however, I also consider the fact that we don’t want to only work the same muscle group all the time!
What to expect every session when you arrive:
• I will always ask you if you have any pain? (If you do then I’ll try to work on a different body area. You never want to ignore pain!)
• I will ask if there is anything you would definitely want to work on or NOT work on for that session! (If you’d prefer to work on something {example: upper body; lower body; cardio etc.} then if we haven’t done a lot of that recently then we’ll probably do it because you’ll apply yourself better if you are enjoying the exercise!)
