I have seen, over my 60 years, many things and “trends” (the terrible “T’s”!) and one of them is that people buy lots of fitness equipment and rarely use it! You’ve heard the jokes about using the equipment as a clothing rack? But it is so true! They think that because they spend money on something that that alone will help them, well it won’t! Sometimes it makes matters worse (actually you make it worse). How? The fact that they bought something makes them feel as if they have done something about improving their health. So that burning desire they once had is now quenched! But they have done one thing to make their health better, but it feels that way! So they have made it worse! “The” Trainer/Inside Out Fitness
There are many reasons to train outside like fresh air and that there are no gym fees. But what I’m talking about today is that you become free from a large assortment of “rules” by a gym! You know like not being able to train the way you like or not being able to wear the shoes that you came to the gym in! Other things like extra fees at different times! It adds up and let me tell you that is feels so good to become “unhampered” from all of those things! “The” Trainer/Inside Out Fitness
I believe that when discussing “overuse injuries” that you are more likely to injure yourself if you are doing an exercise that limits your range of motion! When your range of motion is decreased and you continue the exercise then the area with the limited “movement capabilities” has much more pressure because it can’t move very much! There are different things that this can happen to but one is some “machines!” So if it is a machine that limits “movement” then I would think that one should not do excessive amounts of repetitions! “The” Trainer/Inside Out Fitness
When I tell people that I do all of my training outside, I get all kinds of weird looks! Why? Because as long as they have been alive there have been “gyms!” So they only know what they know! But folks have been into physical fitness for centuries! So when I talk to folks, they don’t get it? I explain that much of outside training requires a person to really know their bodies! You must understand what it takes to use your body as its own resistance! Why? Because most of the things you can use outside are immovable objects! if you’re on a trail and stop at a big rock, for instance, in order to “workout” something needs to move unless You are doing ‘isometric exercises!’ But the rock can’t , you have to understand the movement of your body because that’s what has to move! “The” Trainer/Inside Out Fitness
The main thing that a person doing “outside training” needs to master is body weight training! Let’s say that you are running a trail and decide to stop and do resistance exercise on a big rock (I do this all the time). What you need to be able to do is to “use your body as the resistance!” Why? Because the rock doesn’t move like dumbbells! What has to move is “your body” so you need to understand how to move your body in ways that you will provide that resistance to any part of your body that you choose! #outside #outsidetraining #hoodriver #columbiarivergorge
The way that machines can hurt you is that they use a “piston style” of training (you go forward and backwards over and over hitting almost the exact same muscle tissue and not allowing your body to use very much range of motion) so they (machines) don’t allow very much other tissue to be used. So that repetitive use of the same area over and over is what can cause injury. So using dumbbells, for instance, is a better choice because the weights are more free to move and doesn’t use a “piston style” of pressure! Thanks for your input! I appreciate it!
