The Miami Dolphins are the only team that has had a “perfect season!” In 1972 they won every game they played, including the Superbowl (Superbowl 7). That’s like Rocky Marciano, who is the only heavyweight boxing champion to never lose a match and retired that way!

My brother got this plaque for Christmas one year and it is one of his prized possessions! Will there ever be another NFL team to ever do this again? At this point it doesn’t seem like it but there’s always a chance. Just think about things in your own life and how many of them are “perfect?” Possible? Yes and that’s what can keep you going. Knowing that you always have a chance of taking something you love doing and creating your own “perfection” within that is a powerful way to make sure you never stop working on it! Because you also understand that if you stop and no longer “play the game” then you’ll give up that chance for good.

So how do we, as athletes, continue to shoot for perfection knowing that it’s a long shot? Do what you need to do to keep moving forward in whatever you do! Take small steps when needed instead of going for it all every time. Understand that, at times, you’ll need to go 2 steps forward and one back and that that’s not only ok but it’s actually part of your “life plan!” To end up with the perfect season for the Dolphins in 1972 didn’t mean that they never made mistakes, but that they had an end- goal (not losing a game) and they accepted that each down wouldn’t be perfect but that their goal at the end would always come out a win!

So my brother Dave understands this same thing, he is really into playing “golf” and he knows that everything involving his playing can’t be perfect but that what his “perfection” is, is that he never stops playing! To continue working on his game, he accepts the fact that he can’t do everything right but that if he continues playing he will slowly and surely continue getting better in the overall big picture! In order to never stop knocking that little ball around a course, he accepts the fact that he’ll have good days and not so good but that he will never stop going and trying his best and that can eventually award him his own “perfect season!”

Keep moving forward Dave! – Life@62!
