The MLB has officially announced the 50-player roster for the fourth annual HBCU Swingman Classic, scheduled for Friday, July 10 at Citizens Bank Park. The premier exhibition game, which airs live on MLB Network at 7 p.m. ET, is a centerpiece of MLB All-Star Week.
Founded by Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. in partnership with MLB and the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) Youth Development Foundation, the event provides a national stage for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) baseball talent to showcase their skills in front of MLB scouts, executives, and fans.
This year’s game features two former MLB standouts as team managers. Former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop and 2007 NL MVP Jimmy Rollins will lead the National League squad, while former MLB All-Star Rickie Weeks will manage the American League team.
The rosters feature elite student-athletes selected by a joint committee of scouts, MLB representatives, and Griffey. Returning participants include standout players Justin Journette, Robert Tate Jr., and KJ White, while local prospects Santino Harwood and Solomon McKinney will also compete on the major league stage.
