After Sunday saw England knock out Mexico and Norway eliminate Brazil, Monday brings two more heavyweight matchups in the World CupRound of 16, starting with an Iberian showdown between Spain and Portugal.
Spain enters looking like one of the tournament’s most complete teams after a 3-0 win over Austria, with zero goals conceded through four matches and Lamine Yamal rounding into form. Portugal has survived on moments more than dominance, needing a late winner and a dramatic VAR reprieve to get past Croatia.
Then comes the U.S. against Belgium in Seattle, with the USMNT chasing its first World Cup quarterfinal berth since 2002. The Americans got a major boost Sunday when FIFA rescinded Folarin Balogun’s one-game suspension, making their leading scorer available after his controversial red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Belgium, meanwhile, arrives after a wild escape against Senegal and with plenty to prove.
