Animal
The Barbary lion (Panthera leo leo) was a large lion subspecies from North Africa’s Atlas Mountains, known for its impressive, dark mane that extended over the shoulders and belly, and its solitary nature. Extinct in the wild since the 1940s due to overhunting and habitat loss, it was once revered by Romans and Moroccan royalty, and while no purebreds are confirmed in the wild, descendants with Barbary lineage are believed to exist in captivity, with conservation efforts focused on genetic preservation and potential reintroduction.
