The true story of “The Match” is rooted in the historical events of 1944, where the Nazis organized a football match to commemorate Adolf Hitler’s birthday. The match featured an elite Nazi team and a squad of inmates from the camps, consisting of ex-footballers and political prisoners. The film “The Match” portrays the prisoners’ determination to win, regardless of the odds, and their eventual triumph despite the brutal conditions they faced. The story is told through the last member of the team, a boy who survived, and serves as an allegory for resistance, dignity, and the endurance of the human spirit.
