There’s a lot of things in my past that wouldn’t have necessarily been my choices but at the same time, going back in time and changing something, I wouldn’t want to do that because I like where I came out.

A world of “if”s, but it would make no difference. If I could go back in time… but I couldn’t. The past was behind me. The best thing now would be to stop looking over my shoulder. It was time to forget the past and look to the present and future.

A lot of people say if they could go back in time they would not change anything. But, to be honest with you, I like it and I don’t like it. I like the fact that all I went through as a youngster made me a great man, but just goin’ through what I went through – I wouldn’t wanna go through that again. I wouldn’t wish that on nobody.

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time, sit down with myself and explain that things were going to be okay, that everybody loses ground sometimes and it doesn’t mean anything. It’s the way life works. This is hard to understand in the moment. You get to thinking about the girl who rejected you, the job you got fired from, the test you failed, and you lose sight of the big picture — the fact that life has a beautiful way of remaking itself every few weeks.

Perhaps it’s that you can’t go back in time, but you can return to the scenes of a love, of a crime, of happiness, and of a fatal decision; the places are what remain, are what you can possess, are what is immortal. They become the tangible landscape of memory, the places that made you, and in some way you too become them. They are what you can possess and in the end what possesses you.
